Goodbye haulout. Or rather, the old routine of booking the crane, hauling out, staying in the yard and relaunching just to keep the hull clean and efficient has reached its end. And this is thanks to Anahid, the first underwater platform designed to clean and sterilise a vessel directly in the water.<\/strong> It was developed by Geico Spa<\/a>, specialised in automated painting systems for car bodies, in collaboration with Greensailor<\/a>, an Italian company in the eco-compatible “foul-release” antifouling paint sector. The prototype is on display these days at the Venice Boat Show<\/a>, running until 31 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the Cinisello Balsamo-based company this is their second participation in the lagoon trade fair. In 2025 they had presented the concept of a system capable of combating biofouling \u2014 the biological encrustation of hulls \u2014 without the need to dry-dock vessels. Today that concept becomes a concrete and operational solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anahid, the secret behind a small but great revolution<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The advanced platform uses artificial intelligence and robotics to operate directly in the water without the need for haulout. It represents a technology that reduces environmental impact, improves the energy efficiency of vessels and contributes to the protection of marine ecosystems, confirming Geico’s approach to innovation as both an industrial and sustainable driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Anahid system works by subjecting the hull of the vessel to UV\u2011C LED sterilising light. During the process, a network of intelligent cameras monitors submerged surfaces in real time, providing accurate feedback on the level of cleanliness and the condition of the hull, using AI-based analysis algorithms. A technology that reduces environmental impact, improves the energy efficiency of vessels and contributes to the protection of marine ecosystems, confirming Geico’s approach to innovation as both an industrial and sustainable driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A green turning point for recreational boating<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the practical advantages, Anahid’s true strength lies in its environmental sustainability. Traditional haulout often involves the dispersal of toxic antifouling paint residues into the surrounding environment during pressure washing on land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anahid tackles the problem at its root by using an innovative coating formula, dilutable with drinking water alone, designed to offer total protection of the marine and terrestrial environment while guaranteeing maximum durability and long-term effectiveness. The goal is to completely eliminate polluting substances from antifouling paints and make the application process simple and harmless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
